Oracle replication monitoring

Monitoring is a hallmark operation for any mission-critical enterprise database. Since replication is an important part of the overall enterprise data distribution schema, we must monitor replication operations carefully and be aware of any problems that may occur.

Our first stop in this chapter will be the job scheduler. Both one-way replication and updatable materialized views rely on the database job scheduler to execute jobs that refresh the materialized views. Next, we will discuss methods to monitor the replication job processes to ensure that replication continues to function, or if problems are encountered, to generate an alert to notify the administrator that intervention is required.
